Research Resources for the Community Youth Development Professional

Year Awarded: 2001
Project Leaders:

Janet Olson, MSU Extension, Children Youth and Family Programs

Project Description:
The “Research Resources for the Community Youth Development Professional” project involves the development of a research database and web site to support the work of community youth developers across Michigan (including Michigan State University Extension youth development staff and community partners). Supported by the MSU Extension Youth Development Area of Expertise (YDAoE), the project will yield a categorized database and web site that will identify and annotate current youth-related research (with special highlights of MSU-based research), provide implications for the community work of youth development professionals, and offer tools for using the information. The database will be managed by one of the YDAoE co-chairs and will be guided by an editorial board consisting of members of the YDAoE and MSU faculty from youth-related departments. The board will be responsible for contributing articles to the database and for identifying (or reacting to) two key components included with each database abstract entry: implications for local education and implications for resource/policy development. The effectiveness of the database and web site will be evaluated through monitoring subscription and site usage numbers and through feedback garnered from users.
