MSU Research Projects

Every day MSU research from a broad range of disciplines generates valuable information for families and communities. Scholars and community members work together in a mutual process of discovery and learning.

Sudanese "Lost Boys" Refugees
The Sudanese Youth Project (SYP) is helping young African refugees resettle in mid-Michigan, adapt to American culture and maintain a sense of community. The project is also giving MSU faculty a unique opportunity to research human resilience and learn what enables children and youth to succeed in spite of great hardships. More

New Research Projects at MSU

Each year, the Families and Communities Together (FACT) Coalition awards grants for collaborative, interdisciplinary research on diverse child and family issues. New research projects in 2003 focus on:

  • Early childhood science education
  • Breastfeeding support to low-income women
  • An evaluation of Early Head Start
  • Bridging the generational and digital divide
  • Latino youth in the criminal justice system
  • A system-wide approach to school improvement
  • Child maltreatment and out-of-home placements
  • Mentoring in urban teaching
